1. Use two colors. one for "definitely yes", and the other for "definitely no".
2. Find the spaces that must have something in them. For example, if the number provided is 8, that means that you need to color 8 consecutive squares in a 10 square line. There are only 3 possibilities to fit it in; starting from one end going right, starting from the other edge going left, or coloring the middle eight leaving a single square blank on each side. In all options, the middle 6 are always colored-these are the "definite yes".
3. Find the spaces that are "definitely not" colored. For example, if the
number is 3 and you already know one of the squares, the rest of them are either the two consecutive squares to the right, two consecutive squares to the left, or a combination within that range. Meaning that anything beyond the range is "definitely not".
